Title: Building Resilience Into Cybersecurity
Speaker: Rebecca Mercuri, Ph.D., Notable Software, Inc.
Dramatic global situations during the past 12 months have demonstrated the need for resilient computing in order to mitigate unusual (but not
necessarily unforeseen) "black swan" events. For example, the ability to provide mass-scale online education, work-from-home, and virtual meetings
would not have occurred without the nascent development of videoconferencing along with the necessary underlying broadband Internet and cloud technologies.
Analysis of cyber mono-cultures (as exploited in the SolarWinds attack), and supply-chain issues, can reveal vulnerabilities to foreign and domestic
infrastructure exploits. This talk will also provide insights into resilient design methodologies that may help anticipate and remediate catastrophic
breakdowns before they occur.
Dr. Rebecca Mercuri is the founding President of Notable Software, Inc., where her focus is on cybersecurity, digital forensic investigations, and expert witness services. She provides consultation on a broad range of projects, including: civil and criminal matters, standards compliance, vulnerability assessments, intellectual property disputes, and contested elections. She holds numerous degrees in Engineering and Computer Science, with a Ph.D. from the University of Pennsylvania's School of Engineering and Applied Science. Dr. Mercuri has received awards and recognition for her many decades of research and advocacy in the field of election technology. As an Amateur Radio Extra Class operator (K3RPM), Rebecca has been deployed for communications services in disasters (such as 9/11 and SuperStorm Sandy) and is currently spearheading an effort to increase the number of youth and females in the Ham Radio community.
